The president of the Peoples Republic of China, Xi Jinping, has visited the Netherlands in 2014 for the Nuclear Summit in The Hague. In March 2015 the Prime Minister of the Netherlands will visit China to further strengthen the relationship between Netherlands and China. Mark Rutte, leader of the second largest trading partner of China in Europe, will be the head of an economic mission towards Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Due to the strongpoints of the Netherlands and the opportunities of the two mentioned regions in China, this mission will focus on Agro, Energy, Environment technologies, High-tech, urban development, electronics and e-commerce. Shanghai, with 24 million inhabitants, is the largest and richest city in the Peoples Republic of China. Shanghai contributes approximately 4% of the national GDP of China. With the harbor of Shanghai fueling the region’s growth, it is a city with many opportunities. Shenzhen is without a doubt one of the best performing economic regions in Asia. With 15 million inhabitants, Shenzhen is the main hub for High tech, Biotech and Smart city sectors. Shenzhen is in the center of the Pearl River Delta and the gateway to Hong Kong.
